The Pillbox hat is much associated with Jackie Kennedy in the 1960s. It is a timeless classic that has a history before Jacqueline Kennedy decided to wear it. The pillbox actually dates back centuries. But the modern version was a revival of Victorian Headwear in the 1930s.
This hat is very popular right now and has it's own category now when searched. It use to be listed just under cocktail hats. The Duchess of Cambridge and many other Royals have given a new breath of life to this hat. The modern version is more true to the oval tilt hat of the 1930s. Jackie's 1960s version was round and worn on the back of the head. I prefer the tilt silhouette.
Hats can add so much to an outfit and the pillbox can take you from day to night. I wanted to create a version that was fresh and a little punk rock. I love denim and it's not just for jeans. Denim is a sturdy fabric similar in body to felt. But the lovely thing about denim is it can be worn all year around. My denim hat collection can be worn during all seasons. Therefore, you will get so much use out of them. You can dress them up or down just like jeans. And I had the cheeky idea of creating haute pillbox hats in denim.
During the 1930s, Greta Garbo had a tremendous impact on fashion trends. Whatever, she wore on film became the mode. She was known for the way she wore her hats. And in her native Sweden she in fact work in the millinery section of a department store. I take allot of inspiration from classic Hollywood films and their costuming. Most of the wardrobes were designed on site and created in the studio lots. Adrian was one of the most famous costume designers for Garbo. Whatever they came up with usually went into production for everyone to wear. With all this I decided to create headwear that hearkened back to the centuries but gleams for today's woman. Hats like no other form of adornment have a way to transform. My fascination with this helps me to create hats that bring out the haute beauty in every woman. I don't just create & sell but I dress women's heads.
Cheers!
